Lifetime Caregiver Program. We have retired and City Lickers is now closed.
As dogs have become more humanized by their owners, so too have their needs become almost human like. Dog owners refer to their pets, and treat them as “their children”.
If you were to die unexpectedly or if you become unable to care for your beloved dog, what will happen to them? It is estimated that more than 500,000 pets are euthanized at shelters and at veterinarians as a result of pet owners predeceasing their pets.(1) Will you chance the care of your beloved companion to family or friends, who may not have the financial resources or the time to properly care for them? This dilemma can be solved with a program that is sound and legally protective of your beloved companion as well as the financial resources that have been left for their long term care. A dual protective program is put in place whereby City Lickers is designated as the "caregiver" and a separate legal entity is designated as the "guardian" or "trustee". Florida has adopted a uniform trust code (Stat. Ann. 736.0408(2007). Trust for care of an animal), that provides a Statutory, legal basis for the creation of a Trust for the care of animals. It protects the funds from claims of heirs and creditors, and has the power and procedures to appoint or remove Trustees who oversee the funds. A trust fund is set up for your pet's benefit by you, using your qualified attorney. The trust can be funded with cash or in the |
event of an unexpected death, the proceeds from a life insurance policy. City Lickers, Inc. as the caregiver, will invoice the guardian/trustee on a periodic basis for the care of your dog.
It is important to have this "dual protection" system. The Trustee/Guardian will make sure your dog is being properly cared for as a condition of disbursement of funds to the caregiver. The caregiver has no control over the trust funds. This gives incentive and focus to the caregiver for the well being of the dog to insure a long term relationship. (1) source:www.petguardian.com |
